Franklin, Louisiana February 23, 1864

Mr. John H. Bogart,
I have just received from Mr. Blake, the agent of Adams Express, the receipt which I enclose for the things of James stored in New Orleans. I sent the orders for them to Mr. B, the rest of the things have gone home by Lieut. McGuire and you have probably received them.I wrote John about the horse I have sold him for forty dollars. The purchase to take him as he was. He was lame when I sold him and is so still and in my opinion will be always.

I am to leave to day for home having him discharged from the service and will settle with you for the horse when I arrive. I shall see Gen Banks about the order to send home James' body and will show an undertaker the grave where he is buried so he can get it if I cannot ?????? it now.

I am going to Port Hudson after the remains of Lieut. Oakley. I have a letter of credit here from his brother on a house here for the expenses. If the undertaker will take up James' body, will bring his also. I would pay the expenses myself but have not the means here to do it, and get home.

Shall leave for home about the 24th, expect to go up the river and stop in Michigan a few days.

Very truly Yours,
W. B. Eager Jr.
