Albany, July 1st, 1863
Dear John,
A letter from William Henry together with a paper containing the particulars of James' death was forwarded
to you from Albany on Monday directed to Yorkville. By this time I presume both have been received. He was
struck by a shell in the side and only lived a few moments - was buried at the foot of a tree and the spot
particularly marked. Thus, my dear brother, you see there seems to be no reason to doubt the fatal and
heart rending intelligence.
He is now I trust in that blessed abode where war never enters and in the full enjoyment of eternal
happiness - a little longer and we shall all be reunited never more to part. I cannot express how deeply
I sympathize with you all. With much love to Eliza, yourself and the children. Sincerely and affectionately
your sister.
Henrietta
Please inform me if you have received the letter and paper. There are other letters which I understand
will soon reach you.
